Daily Bible Reading 14th July 2025 // Colossians 3:1-4
1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
When Christ died we died (v 3). When Christ was raised we were raised (v 1). Christ is now seated in the glory on the right hand of the Father and in Him, incredibly, we too are seated in the glory (vv 1, 3). Christ is our life. The reality of our new life is in the heavenly realms, our life is hid, safely and securely, with Christ in God (Ephesians 2:4-6). Therefore, since this is the reality, since we are seated in the heavenly realms, Paul summons us to seek heavenly things, the things of the new world and of God. He summons us to set our minds, to give our mind and will and heart fully and completely to the things of God. This is to be an active seeking and setting of the mind and affections and will. It is our responsibility as new men and new women, empowered by the Spirit of God, to direct and orientate our lives for the things of God, to set our minds on what the Spirit desires and not on what the flesh desires. This is why saturating our minds and hearts in the Scriptures is of such importance. It is as we dig into the Word of God and meditate upon its truths that we learn the mind of God and His mind is formed in us. The wisdom of the book of Proverbs is as true today as it was then: 'As a man thinketh in his heart so is he' (Proverbs 23:7). Where our mind is set, the way we think, is intimately related to the way we live - whether that be as a Christian in the Spirit and by faith or as an unbeliever in the flesh, in sin and in spiritual death (Romans 8:5-6).
